The old port, today the marina area, was important in the establishment of the city in the 2 century AD. The most important period  fort he port was in the Roman Period and it was particulary  important as a trade port in the Byzantine and Seldjuk periods, The port has lost its importance in the Ottoman period and it has become the place of refuge fort he fishing boats and yachts.
