International Kaleiçi Old Town Festival, which will be organized by Antalya Muratpaşa Municipality for the 9th time this year in the city's living ancient city Kaleiçi, will take place between 17-20 October.
Kaleiçi is the historical city center of Antalya, which triggers the sense of discovery in its visitors with its narrow streets intersecting with each other, mansions, windows hidden with bougainvilleas, traces of human history are traced on different routes, and brings together extraordinary examples of world cuisine.
The living ancient city, which won the ‘Golden Apple’ tourism award, which is called the “World Tourism Oscar” in 1984, lost its joy over the years due to reasons such as changing world tourism trends and indifference. In such a period, Muratpaşa Municipality started a study centered on Kaleiçi in 2014 to develop a tourism that moves with the feeling of discovering new places, cultures and people, spreads to the city and integrates with the tradesmen. With the tradesmen meetings, cooperations developed with institutions and organizations, Antalya’s living ancient city has become a region where tourism continues for 12 months today.
The biggest organization of Muratpaşa Municipality’s Kaleiçi works, the International Kaleiçi Old Town Festival, will also celebrate its 9th anniversary this year. Mayor Ümit Uysal announced that the 9th festival will be held on October 17-20. Uysal stated that one of the most important results of the festival is the construction of permanent cultural bridges between cities with living ancient cities like Kaleiçi and Kaleiçi becoming a part of the world heritage.
Stating that Kaleiçi has become a region that produces jobs and food for 12 months, Mayor Uysal said, “Antalya is undoubtedly one of the most important destinations in the world in mass tourism. However, Kaleiçi, where tourism continues for 12 months, is a city vision for Antalya. From this perspective, it is about correctly constructing the future of our Antalya. It is a source of pride for us to see a lively Kaleiçi where tourism continues for 12 months.”
